Senior Software Engineer – Java & Python
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to join our technical team on a contractual basis. This role involves backend development, systems and instrument integration, testing and deployment of new product feature releases, and providing general technical support as needed.
Location:
The role requires being on-site in South San Francisco (SSF) three days per week, so it follows a hybrid work arrangement. There may also be some overlap required with Pacific Time working hours.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the technical team to design, develop, and implement new features and systems integrations
- Ensure high performance and responsiveness of applications by writing efficient, reusable, and reliable code
- Participate in the testing and deployment of new product releases to ensure quality and performance standards are met
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve issues as they arise
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify and address technical challenges
What we expect:
- Strong experience with Java and Python for backend development
- Experience with Docker for containerization and Kubernetes for deployment
- SQL experience for database management
- Experience with Git-based version control systems (GitLab, GitHub, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Demonstrated ability to engage with scientific stakeholders, ideally within chemistry or related scientific domains, to understand challenges and inform technical strategy
Nice to have:
- Previous experience in a similar role within a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with AWS environments
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with automation systems or software used in chemical synthesis workflows
- Familiarity with TypeScript and front-end development
- A proactive approach to learning new technologies and continuously improving technical skills
