Cheminformatics Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated and scientifically fluent Cheminformatics Scientist to join our consulting team. This is a critical, client-facing role responsible for bridging the gap between our pharmaceutical and biotech clients' deep scientific needs and Quantori's sophisticated digital solutions. You will leverage your scientific domain knowledge to analyze, document, and translate complex scientific workflows into clear, actionable requirements for our Data Science and Engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a Cheminformatics Scientist to develop new algorithms and train new models using scientific data 
  • Develop scientific solutions using open source and commercial scientific software used by the Chemists in support of Drug Discovery and Development 
  • Analyze and visualize scientific data to develop actionable insights
  • Lead detailed discovery sessions with client scientists, R&D leaders, and business stakeholders to thoroughly document current-state ("As-Is") scientific and technical workflows
  • Design and model future-state ("To-Be") processes, focusing on how AI, data science platforms, and advanced informatics can optimize drug discovery, clinical development, and translational research
  • Elicit, analyze, and document comprehensive business requirements and functional specifications for complex scientific and GxP-regulated systems (e.g., LIMS, ELN, CTMS, Scientific Data Platforms)
  • Translate high-level scientific concepts and business needs into precise user stories, epics, and technology development tasks for Agile development teams
  • Collaborate closely with Quantori's Data Scientists, Engineers, and Solution Architects to ensure the final solution design meets scientific integrity, is scalable, and adheres to regulatory requirements
  • Act as the primary subject matter expert (SME) during development, UAT, and system validation activities
  • Develop high-quality documentation, including process flow diagrams, system specifications, data dictionaries, and traceability matrices to ensure compliance and clarity across the project lifecycle

What we expect:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Computational Chemistry)
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in a Cheminformatics Scientist role within the Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven understanding of key scientific domains such as: R&D/Research Informatics (Assay Development, Computational Chemistry,QSAR); Laboratory Informatics (e.g., LIMS, ELN, Scientific Data Acquisition/Aggregation/Analysis platforms); Experience with Open Source or commercial Cheminformatics tools and solutions 
  • Exceptional ability to structure complex, scientific conversations into logical process maps and unambiguous technology requirements
  • Strong familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in an Agile environment and experience documenting requirements for data-intensive or cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience with documentation and processes for GxP-regulated systems (e.g., CFR Part 11, GAMP 5) would be preferred 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating scientific stakeholders and conducting workshops to elicit requirements

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience in a scientific research organization or technology consulting firm serving the life sciences sector
  • Familiarity with modern Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI use cases in pharma R&D
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CBAP, or specialized informatics/cloud certifications)
